FAQ
Why should I partake in antenatal classes?
Antenatal classes are designed to help you feel more prepared to both survibe and enjoy pregnancy and early parenthood. They can improve your physical and mental wellbeing and create important friendships and support networks (it is lovely to have someone to message at 3am in the morning if you’re struggling with something).
They can help to promote confidence, relieve anxieties and teach practical tips to make what can be a rollercoaster ride you are embracing a little smoother. Most importantly they are good fun (and a nice little break from work).
Individual and bespoke sessions can provide support at any stage needed, depsnding on availability.
When should I partake in antenatal classes?
Most antenatal classes typically start around 30 to 32 weeks of pregnancy, which is 8 to 10 weeks before your baby is due. However, this class includes pregnancy and buying for baby advice so could be taken earlier than this. Furthermore not all babies wait till their due date …
Individual and bespoke sessions can provide support at any stage needed.
Who is this class designed for?
Anyone who is expecting a child or even wanting to try for a child. Antenatal classes provide valuable information, practical skills, and a chance to address your questions or concerns. They also offer opportunities to meet other parents and feel more prepared for labour, delivery, and life with your new baby. This course is designed for both partners to attend but this is not essential.
The class is also suitable for any stage of pregnancy and any pregnancy, not just your first.
Why should I pay for antenatal classes?
The cost of antenatal classes varies widely:
- NHS classes: Free or low-cost but typically remote/video link, specific course design with limited information or chance for interaction, not tailored to your concerns
- Private group classes: £100–£300 for a course
- Personalized 1-2-1 sessions: £500–£1300.
We offer a very affordable, high quality course that is designed and led by a GP, allowing you small group tailored antenatal and medical advice for a very reasonable cost compared to other classes run without the same medical qualifications.
Do you offer 1 to 1 classes?
Absolutely! Individual, bespoke 1 to 1 or small group classes can be booked to cover the topics and content of your choice. They start from 1 hour to as long as required and this can be discussed prior to meeting. They can be held face to face or remotely, with timing and location flexible. Prices start from £75 per hour.
Please complete and online enquiry to discuss your requirements for this
How many sessions are there and where are you based?
This is a 3 step course split over 2 sessions of 3 hours each, including a refreshment and socialising break in each session.
FThe classes will be held in the Ringwood, new forest, and surrounding area but remote classes and alternate locations may be available on request.
What is the difference between NCT, NHS antenatal classes and this class?
The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) is a UK charity offering private, paid for antenatal courses. These typically cover a limited content which focuses on labour and birth, breastfeeding but limited newborn care. They do not contain medical content and are predominantly run in evenings and weekends. While NHS classes are typically free and contain a more medical content than NCT, they are usually remote, non interactive and aim to provide a large volume of information over a short time.
Our private classes combine medical expertise with personalized care, offering a balance of professional guidance and a supportive community. They take place during the working week so you can use paid time off work to attend without being too exhausted in your free evenings to enjoy attending.
Do you get time off work for antenatal classes?
Yes, if you’re pregnant, you are entitled to paid time off work for antenatal appointments recommended by your doctor or midwife. This includes parenting or relaxation classes in addition to medical check-ups. Partners are also entitled to unpaid time off for antenatal class attendance.
Contact your employer to ensure arrangements are in place for your antenatal sessions. Guidance can be found in the following link:
How do I/We attend?
Use the booking form online to book and pay for your place on one of the pre-determined dates. If you cannot make any of these dates please contact me via a web enquiry to discuss other options
What is your refund policy?
Our refund policy can be found in the terms and conditions sections. If you have to cancel at short notice and I am able to fill your space then I will happily issue a refund minus a small admin fee. If you are poorly and cannot attend a session then I will try to arrange for you to attend an alternative class if numbers and timings allow. All attenders will be given a copy of the course content
Are antenatal classes useful for second-time parents?
Yes! Many second-time parents find antenatal classes helpful, as they can build on previous knowledge and focus on updated advice or new areas of concern. You might also enjoy the opportunity to connect with other parents expecting their second child.
What happens after the course?
I hope you will feel very prepared and confident to have your baby and become parents. I always love to gear feedback on the course once your little ones arrive as well as hear about your news when they come. Your are also still very welcome to contact me for ongoing support and advice once they are here.
I will encourage each class to form friendships and create an ongoing support group amongst yourself for your parenting journey. I am happy to facilitate this further if requested by attendees.
What can be covered in private sessions?
Generally whatever you would like to talk about. This can be dsicussed with me directly prior to attending or booking so we can allow appropriate timing and planning. Common topics may be details caesarean section advice, post-pregnancy health and recovery, mental wellbeing, shopping tips …
Private sessions can also be run for smaller groups and potentially alternate locations or via video link.
Why do I need to complete a pre-course questionnaire?
This is to help me learn a little more about yourselves to help me tailor classes to any specific needs or medical queries attendees may have. I do not want to waste your time discussing home birth if no-one attending wishes to consider this birthing option for example.
